AMIGOS books participant flights as part of our standard travel process. If you prefer a different travel arrangement we would ask you to complete a travel deviation form. This ensures that our Travel Team has accurate details for your travel plans and can coordinate participants arrival and departure accordingly. This change could be one of the following options:
Two distinct airports
The family would like their volunteer to depart from and return to two distinct airports. For example, the family lives in San Francisco, but will be in Denver visiting extended family on the day of the volunteer’s return to the US so the family would like the volunteer to depart from SFO but return to DEN.
Pick up in country
The family would like to meet their volunteer in the country on the final day of the volunteer’s project. For example, a family is planning to vacation in the Dominican Republic with their volunteer for the week after the volunteer’s project.
Please note that volunteers must be collected from the airport on the final day of the program prior to the group flight departure, usually very early in the morning. Under no circumstances is it permitted for volunteers to be picked up on any day other than the final day of the program, including the night before the departure.
The person responsible for collecting the volunteer must arrive in the project country the day before the project ends (or earlier), in order to avoid issues related to flight delays or cancellations.
We can book the volunteer’s return flight for a later date as long as it is with the same airline and departing from the same airport that we have been using. Please note that we do not arrange flights with other airlines or different routes. For example, if the program ends on June 22nd and the flight was originally booked with American Airlines departing from SDQ (Santo Domingo), we can book the volunteer’s return flight for June 29th, also departing from SDQ. However, if the family requests the flight to depart from Punta Cana instead, or for the return flight to be with a different airline, this will not be possible and the family will need to arrange their own flights.
Drop off in country
A family would like to drop off their volunteer in the country on the first day of the volunteer’s project and have only the volunteer’s return flight be booked with the group.
For example, a family is planning to vacation in Costa Rica with their volunteer for the week before the volunteer’s project that starts on June 22nd. They would like only the volunteer’s return flight to be booked with the group and will book their volunteer’s flight to Costa Rica for their family travel day.
Volunteers must be dropped off at the airport before the group flight arrival time
Please complete the form and submit it to the Travel Team for approval. Before making any travel arrangements, be sure to contact the Travel Team so they can review and approve your request. It is important to respect the program dates, as Amigos do not make exceptions for family trips or other personal travel.
Opting Out of AMIGOS Travel
Families may choose to arrange and purchase their own travel independently instead of booking through AMIGOS. If you opt out of AMIGOS travel arrangements, please notify the Travel Team as early as possible. Please note that AMIGOS will not provide any travel assistance or support in this case, so families are responsible for coordinating all flight details and ensuring their travel aligns with the program schedule by working closely with the Travel Team.
If a family purchases the same group itinerary on their own, they will still be required to pay the $200 administrative fee, as the participant will be joining the group travel arrangements.
